In the aftermath of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, Microimage and Dialog Axiata joined forces on a volunteer project to pioneer the world’s first GSM-based Disaster & Emergency Warning Network (DEWN) solution.
After years of engineering effort, in 2009, DEWN was implemented at the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) of the Government of Sri Lanka. Today, this solution is the primary emergency warning solution for the DMC, serving as a critical tool in ensuring public safety in Sri Lanka.
Microimage’s second subsidiary, Futura Tech Labs extended its flagship radio automation solution, mStudio, along with associated hardware, such as a computer, microphones, speakers and a mixer to the charity organisation, Foundation of Goodness (FoG) in Sri Lanka.
This initiative helped FOG launch the ‘Good News’ online radio channel to spread positivity and pave the way for practical media training for rural children. This includes presenting, news broadcasting, navigating the radio console and software, scheduling music content, and overall media management of a radio station.
Futura Tech Labs further donated mStudio and associated hardware to Sathi Pasala, a mindfulness centre in Sri Lanka that promotes mental and emotional well-being. This donation was made to help Sathi Pasala build an online radio platform that connects communities, raises awareness about mindfulness, and mobilises support for their life-changing initiatives
Microimage Founder and CEO Harsha Purasinghe was one of the impact investors of ‘Ath Pavura,’ Sri Lanka’s first-ever reality TV show for social entrepreneurs, aimed at fostering an impact investment ecosystem in the country. This ground-breaking programme served as a unique platform for channelling equity capital to micro, small, and medium-level entrepreneurs, intending to empower them to achieve their business goals and make a positive impact in their communities.
